The Third Quarter 2024 issue of the AHA Coding Clinic for HCPCS newsletter was released September 13, 2024. Let’s explore some of the highlights!

The newsletter includes coding advice for 13 questions on the following topics:

  • Arthroscopic debridement of a knee cyclops lesion;
  • Blepharoptosis repair by Muller’s muscle-conjunctival resection (MMCR) technique;
  • Mehta cast application;
  • Application of tissue localization marker (clip) during colonoscopy;
  • 3 questions about Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) reporting for the lumbar and sacral regions; and  
  • 6 clarification questions about
    • Patellofemoral compartment arthroplasty,
    • Spermatic cord lipoma excision with hernia repair, and  
    • Correct reporting for HCPCS Level II code J0702.

The third quarter newsletter also addresses new, revised, and deleted CPT codes in the Cardiovascular System and Medicine Section. In the Cardiovascular System, 8 codes were created for the phrenic nerve stimulation system and 13 Category III codes were deleted. In the Medicine Section, 4 codes were created for the activation of the phrenic nerve stimulation system.

Additionally, the newsletter addresses new, deleted, and revised HCPCS Level II codes effective July 1, 2024, including:

  • 69 new HCPCS Level II codes,
  • 11 deleted HCPCS Level II codes, and  
  • 3 revised HCPCS Level II codes.  

Finally, there are 2 new CPT codes for vaccines.
