AHA Central Office: Editorial Advisory Boards
The AHA Central Office is supported by 2 distinct editorial advisory boards: Editorial Advisory Board for the Coding Clinic for ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS and Editorial Advisory Board for the Coding Clinic for HCPCS.
Editorial Advisory Board for ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS
AHA's Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) for Coding Clinic for ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS is a voluntary advisory board that brings together people with diverse health care backgrounds, expertise and knowledge and represents a balanced representation of interests. The EAB for Coding Clinic for ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS was developed to ensure that the needs of users of the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS classification system are addressed.
Board members represent important stakeholders in the health care community. Along with the AHA, AHIMA, CMS and NCHS, the EAB includes:
- American Medical Association (AMA)
- American College of Physicians (ACP)
- American College of Surgeons (ACS)
- American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP)
The goal of the EAB is to assist hospitals/networks in collecting and reporting standardized quality data by:
- Advocating in federal/national forums to assure that data used by integrated information systems and federal programs is based upon clearly defined and uniform standards since resultant data will be used to evaluate performance
- Serving as the authoritative source of coding/classification information
- Consultative relationships on an ad hoc basis have been developed with

The AHA's Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) for Coding Clinic for HCPCS is a voluntary advisory board that brings together people with diverse health care backgrounds, expertise and knowledge and represents a balanced representation of interests. The EAB for Coding Clinic HCPCS was developed to ensure that the needs of institutional users of the HCPCS classification system are addressed.
Board members represent important stakeholders in the health care community. Along with the CMS and the American Health Information Management Association, the EAB includes representatives from state hospital associations and AHA members with expertise in coding, billing, finance, compliance and clinical areas.
The goal of the EAB is to assist hospitals/networks in collecting and reporting standardized quality data by:
- Serving as the authoritative source of hospital HCPCS coding/classification information
- Clarifying ambiguities related to the reporting of outpatient coding procedures
- Other expert consultative relationships on an ad hoc basis have been developed with
